The Wing Chair

If ever there was a  furniture style that not only survives but transcends the ages, it would have to be the wing chair.  Once a very traditional and functional style, the iconic shape has become a much desired design element that has been reinterpreted in contemporary, traditional, glam and farmhouse genres.  The wing chair stands on its own in any space and is made available in every price range.

Here are a very few examples of the diversity of style in the modern wing chair.

Mid-Century Doors by Crestview

So you’ve found the perfect mid-century home.  You have the Sputnik Chandelier,  the Herman Miller chairs and the starburst clock.  The interior is falling into place.  But the eye of the home is the front door and yours is stained oak with a floral etched glass insert.  Oh, it’s still an eye….it’s just black and blue and swollen.   So where does one find an authentic 1950’s or 1960’s door?  That was a tricky question until 2007 when Crestview Doors and Millwork was founded, offering a number of great styles available in interior and exterior and in wood finishes or vibrant colors.

Enjoy some of the great work done by Crestview below and then take a look at their website.  They have a wonderful piece of software that allows you to upload pictures of your own home and play with different door styles.

Nella Vetrina is a luxury Italian furniture and lighting fabricator with a flair for classic modern like none I’ve seen before.  They offer sleek modern, glamorous hollywood regency, and even painted French-style vanities and each collection is offered in a number of finishes, colors and configurations.   This is just a small sampling of the wonderful options for today’s bathroom!

Modern Green & Neutral with a splash of Bue

Green has to be the most versatile of all colors.   It goes traditional, modern, retro, rustic.  It looks good with browns, oranges, neutrals, blues, reds, pinks, purples…….The combinations are endless!

Balancing Straight Lines and Curves

For me, too many horizontal and vertical lines within a space make me feel rigid and uncomfortable.  Many of you have a similar reaction but perhaps haven’t been able to nail down the cause.  While I love the very sleek contemporary furnishings, I can’t live with the hard-edged feel of the minimalist, straight-lined interior day in and day out.  So if you want to enjoy some of those crisp mid-century or modern pieces, you need only introduce them to elements that exhibit curvilinear shapes.  Whether you add a chair with a curved leg, a lamp with circular shapes or even a throw pillow with a soft design, you are able to break up the stiff formality and usher in a more inviting living experience.
